Our Work
A Holistic Approach
Al Hussein Society offers a holistic approach to healthcare to persons with physical disabilities in Jordan and the Middle East. The center provides a comprehensive method of treatment, which takes into account intellectual challenges and social factors, in addition to the physical symptoms of cases.
Al Hussein Society focuses on the integration of individuals with physical disabilities into society. Therefore departments conscientiously work hand in hand on preparing individuals for inclusion and integration on all levels.
Al Hussein Society provides various rehabilitation and healthcare services that fall under the wide fields of physiotherapy and occupational therapy, some of which are speech therapy, hydrotherapy, nutrition and nursing. The center strives to remain up to date on all that is new in the domains of healthcare and rehabilitation internationally in order to deliver the highest quality services to persons with physical disabilities. This all is part of our mission to become a lead training facility in the region.
Our goal is to become an institutionalized training facility aiding Jordan and the Middle Eastern region. We have partnered with a German organization, Christofel Blinden Mission, CBM, in this regard and are following all the necessary measures to ensure our success. As such we are now in the process of developing training packages which will be available for other NGOs to benefit from.
Please see below more details on the services offered at AHS.
Early Intervention:
In order to offer the best care for newborns and toddlers, the Early Intervention Program provides rehabilitation services necessary to avoid complications from birth deformities and defects for babies 0-3 years of age. The program also aims to secure a safe and stimulating environment through which this age group will be able to develop their own motor, social and communication skills.
Physiotherapy:
Our well-trained staff strives to ensure that the individual is rehabilitated from impairments and disabilities through the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential through examination, evaluation, diagnosis and physical intervention. We help our beneficiaries achieve their optimal level of self-reliance, taking into account the conditions that surround him/her in their environment.
Occupational Therapy:
Through our Occupational Therapy Program we encourage the functional development of daily-living activities and promote self-reliance and independence in most aspects of the person’s life. Through tailored individual and group programs, we foster functional performance level considering the disability and the conditions of their environment.
Psychosocial Counseling:
Another aspect of our care is psychosocial assessment and rehabilitation services to both Al Hussein Society School children and children enrolled in the Early Intervention Program, including background checks that identify low income families to provide them with the support needed.
We also conduct the Stanford Binet-Intelligence Test for children set to enter the first grade at the Al Hussein Society School.
Outreach Program:
AHS offers a specialized, multidisciplinary team that provides rehabilitation services to individuals and communities in rural/ distant areas of Jordan who are unable to get to Al Hussein Society due to geographical or physical barriers.
Additionally, we train caregivers and volunteers within those communities on the rehabilitation techniques needed to continue the care necessary.
Al Hussein Society School:
In order to ensure proper integration into the Jordanian public school system, Al Hussein Society provides a comprehensive learning experience from foundation through third grade to children with physical challenges. The school follows the curriculum of the Ministry of Education and empowers children to practice their full civil rights and duties, preparing them for their move to mainstream schools in fourth grade.
Orthopedic Engineering Workshop:
A group of internationally certified professional orthotic technicians work diligently to produce orthotics, prosthesis and full body braces to suit individual needs of AHS school children as well as outpatients. Technicians follow up with individuals (especially children) regularly to make sure any necessary resizing of orthotics is taken care of.
Mobility Aids Workshop:
Wheelchairs, crutches, tables and chairs are adapted at the Mobility Aids Workshop to the exact measurements and needs of each individual. The workshop guarantees high quality modifications to mobility aids and furniture required for individuals to carry out their daily functions in the most comfortable way possible.
